This version of the famous starship is the one seen first in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
The model is lighted with a lighting kit built by Trekmodeler. Also, this model has additional lighting in the shuttle bay in the form of sequential landing bay lights.
I am also using photo etch details made by Paragrafix.
Installation of sequential running lights in the shuttle bay floor.
Working on landscaping in the arboretum. Walls have not been inserted yet.
Here are two photos of the completed botanical gardens. The clear ceiling will allow lighting of the arboretrum. The second photo is a side view of what will be showing through the window.
Here is the bottom of the secondary hull, painted and with the main electronics connector installed. The shuttle bay is sitting on top but not assembled in place. The shuttle bay runway lights have been wired into the main connector.
Here is the shuttle bay as seen from the hangar entry.
Here is the dorsal neck, assembled (though not fully painted), and the upper secondary hull ceiling piece. Lights have been installed and wired between the dorsal neck and the hull piece. You can also see the wire connections that will extend through the pylons to the warp nacelles.
A lot has been done since the last posted photo - the secondary hull is complete (except for marking decals to be applied later) and the main body of the saucer is assembled. At this point, there is painting still to be done on the saucer and then Aztec decals will be applied before the bridge dome is attached. Note that the front of the secondary saucer- the deflector housing and dish - are not attached yet, as I must have access to the wiring inside until the ship is assembled.
Aztecs have been applied to the saucer and the bridge and sensor dome (on the underside) are in place. All that remains are marking decals and some detail painting that will be done when the ship is assembled.
Warp engines have been wired and assembled. Next will come detailing on the nacelles, some painting, and finally the Aztec patterns.
Warp engines attached to the secondary hull.
Saucer attached! I have the ship leaning against the wall in an upright position to let the bond dry overnight.
A little bit closer... Needs saucer marking decals...and the final piece, the deflector dish.
Completed!
