WIP: 1:350 Scale NCC-1701 Refit (Danny)

This version of the famous starship is the refit first seen in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The specific version is as seen in The Wrath of Khan.

The model is lighted with a lighting kit built by Trekmodeler.

I am also using photo etch details made by Paragrafix.

This is where I usually start...with the shuttle/hangar bay. I first attach the photo-etch details and then paint the walls and floor.

Using the same photo here for all 4 builds I'm working on. These pieces are the hardest ones to paint in the whole kit. They are clear parts and it takes a lot of fine detailing and just the right light to see where the lines, indentions, etc., are. I painted 8 of these - 2 for each model.

Shuttles are painted and decaled and ready. They will not be glued down in the shuttle bay.

Shuttle bay assembled. Next step is puttying around the exterior where there are light leaks.

Long overdue update. Work on the neck. Attaching the forward section of the secondary hull. Putting it all together.

Almost ready to paint the base coat on the secondary hull. In the meantime, I'm also working on the painting of the interior bridge. Keep in mind, this thing is SMALL.

I prepped the saucer halves for lighting, glued on the saucer rim pieces, used putty on seams, and then sprayed two different colors to light block the interior side - first a dark green (not pictured), then bright white to help reflect internal lighting.

Also put down a base coat on the secondary hull and have begun applying Aztec masks.
