This was a very special personal build for a very special person - my amazing son, Joshua. I bought this 1:29 scale Revell X-Wing fighter kit a couple years ago and had originally thought I might build it *with* Joshua, but that didn't happen as I'd hoped, so I finally decided I would build it for him and give it to him for Christmas.
This kit is marketed as a "snap" kit and was pre-painted, but of course, I wanted it to be much more authentic so I repainted it all and naturally glued it together. I rigged it with my own lighting and made some scratch-built modifications to the cockpit to add details.
I'm posting this on Christmas Day. On this day I was thinking about the Son of God who was sent by his heavenly Father to this earth to provide hope for us all, demonstrating the immeasurable Love of God for humanity and His desire to have a relationship with us, a desire that was so powerful that He took on human form and lived as one of us, bridging a gulf that no one else could bridge. I have lately been keenly mindful of the mercy and grace my Heavely Father has shown me personally, despite all the mistakes (and there have been plenty) I have made throughout my life. I also lost my own earthly father earlier this year. So my mind and heart have been very focused on the relationships between fathers and sons. My own son has made me so proud - I could not be more proud of him - and there is nothing I would not do for his sake. I feel exactly the same way about my daughters, but having lost my dad this year, and having spent the last seven months reflecting on my relationship with my father, I cannot help but think about the special, unique relationship between fathers and sons and I pray daily asking my heavenly Father to help me become the father I need to be for my own precious son.
